The background of IDEP

The web application IDEP is offered by the Central Bureau of Statistics to firms faced with the task of providing data for the statistics of the International Trade in Goods.

IDEP is provided free of charge to companies that have to provide, based on EU-legislation (Intrastat) or customs regulations (Extrastat, trade with non EU-counties), the required data to CBS.
IDEP is being distributed in several EU member states. As a web application in Denmark, Luxembourg and Sweden; as a desktop application in Austria, Belgium, France and Portugal (except for the latter two countries IDEP is distributed free of charge).

The INTRASTAT system created an obligation for natural persons or legal entities involved in the trade of goods between the member states (EC Regulation 638/2004). Dutch enterprises have to provide data on border crossing commodity trade directly to Statistics Netherlands (CBS).

Enterprises are exempt from statistical declarations under the INTRASTAT system when their imports and exports stay below a certain threshold. From 2014 the threshold was set at 1,500,000 euro for both imports and exports. This threshold is the annual value of the imports and exports to and from the EU countries and applies to imports and to exports separately: so an enterprise with ICA of 1,450,000 euro and ICD of 1,550,000 euro is only required to supply information about ICD.
